KARACHI: Federal minister for Ports and Shipping Sardar Nabeel Ahmed Gabol has performed groundbreaking ceremonies of five development projects in Liyari.
These included Mono Technical Institute, Bakhtawar Park, Community centre, Sewerage water Injector and Mirza Adam Khan Road on Sunday.
Nazim Liyari Town Hashim Mehmood, Shafiq Ur Rehman Paracha, Member Provincial Assembly Dr Saleem Hingoro, National Highway Authority Liyari development Project Director Mushtaq Ahmed Kalhoro, other NHA officials, local Pakistan People’s party leaders including Former Liyari Peace Committee chairman and PPP’s local leader Uzair and other accompanied the minister.
In his address, the minister said that government has planned to develop Liyari so as to bring it equal to other developed towns of the city and for that purpose, President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a special Liyari development Package worth Rs 25 billion.
PPP government has entirely replaced age-old deteriorated water and sewerage lines and has ensured people of Liyari have direct access to potable water.
The minister said that apart from construction of roads, PPP government has also focused on education and health facilities for the people of Liyari. Under this, Liyari Medical College would be established within two months within the premise of Liyari General Hospital while a University would also be established in three months in Liyari Degree College.
The minister regretted that a political party that has been enjoying power for the last 14 years, ignored Liyari but they should now understand that it was Liyari wherefrom starts the city of Karachi and the labourers of Liyari had developed today’s Karachi into a mega city.

The minister said that our allies in the government used to say they would not sit in opposition but would join us. Despite the fact that they are in coalition with PPP but still they were devising conspiracies against PPP government.
The minister said that the conspirators had prepared a comprehensive plan to topple the PPP led government on March 16. These have been claiming that an ambulance was reserved for President Asif Ali Zardari so that he could be ousted with force.
The minister said that’s Mian Nawaz Sharif had with a few thousand people managed restoration of the Chief Justice of Pakistan so the conspirators should know that PPP could bring millions of people on streets and block the whole of the city in just one hour because only the PPP has the toughest street power.
The minister said that everyone knew who had begged for his life in Adyala Jail and left the country after he had signed a deal with the dictator. Those who wanted to oust the President from the President House in an ambulance were living in fools’ paradise. These elements should know that PPP has formed government for five years so they should wait till next general elections after five years.
The minister said that PPP leaders were afraid of none. Former Director general Inter Services Intelligence had said to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto that she should not go to Rawalpindi due to threats for her life but she did not feel the fear and reached Rawalpindi for people of the country.

In his address, PPP Member Provincial Assembly from Liyari Dr Saleem Hingoro said that It was PPP government that has approved Liyari development Package worth Rs 3 billion of which Rs 500 million would be utilized annually. Further, Federal government has approved Rs 200 million for electrification of Liyari.
Hingoro claimed that the people of Liyari have played their part since 1970 and now it was time to pay them back for their sacrifices.
Hingoro warned certain political party of the city without naming it as he said that the chauvinistic ethnicity-based party has for the last 12 years been exploiting people of Liyari but should now stop such exploitation because people of Liyari have realized these conspirators, which play an active role to topple the elected PPP government.
Hingoro said that it was the PPP government that secured maximum benefits of the National Finance commission (NFC) award.
Liyari Town Nazim Hashim Mehmood in his address said that the Liyari development Package was presented to the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari on April 29, which he had approved in a meeting held in June. Pakistan People’s Party’s government has always been taking care of Liyari’s people.
He said that the construction of MAKR with Rs 200 million was not possible for the Liyari Town Municipal Administration and PPP’s government has taken the task, which after completion would guarantee countless new venues of progress and prosperity for the people of Liyari.
“I don’t know if the City District Government Karachi had served the Liyari with any development project or had allocated any funds for its development except that of K-III water project, which was initiated by the former City Nazim Naimatullah khan Advocate while present City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal had completed it”, he claimed.
He said that he had not only strived for fixing age-old water and sanitation problems but special attention was given to improvement of education and health facilities and social reforms.
In reply to a question, Nazim said that despite tremendous propaganda, peace and tranquility has prevailed in Liyari and the law and order was completely maintained.
Former Liyari Peace Committee chairman and PPP’s local leader Uzair demanded PPP government should resolve Liyari’s people’s grievances especially lack of job opportunities. He said that Liyari was forte of PPP.
National Highway Authority Liyari development Project Director Mushtaq Ahmed Kalhoro while giving briefing to the minister said that 4.3-km long Mirza Adam Khan Road (MAKR) was spread over a long area from Mauripur Interchange to Garden East by way of Mewah Shah.
The project, said the Director that the MAKR project cost was Rs 258 million and it has consisted of 4 development phases of which three were for construction while one was for electrification and beautification of the entire length of the MAKR. The project would be completed within next eight months.
