KARACHI: Nations of the world have individual and selective cultural identity and even the nomadic tribes and the red Indians living in the woods have lived upto the twenty-first century with their traditional norms and values.

Liyari Town Nazim Hashim Mehmood expressed these views while addressing a seminar held Monday on the subject of Sindhi culture, Ajrak and Topi.

Mehmood said that Pakistan is a rich country on the globe as it has countless cultures and traditional values that are individually exclusive but still these are unified under one flag constituting one nation.

Mehmood claimed that country’s description would not be completed without Sindhi Topi and Ajrak. All citizens who live in Sindh have responsibility to promote Sindhi Topi and Ajrak with pride because these infallible constituents of Sindhi culture were not sheer part of tradition but were a matter of dignity and self-respect.

Mehmood was of the opinion that any cap, hat, or Topi was sign of high esteem among nations. However, Sindhi Topi has special meaning for Islam because it has a triangular cut at the fore front part, which was carved out for making the forehead touch the ground during prostration during prayers.

Mehmood added that Sindhi people are popular for entertaining their guests irrespective to their cast, creed, colour or region and they offer their heartfelt homage by presenting Sindhi Topi and Ajrak to their guests. Henceforth, Sindhi Topi and Ajrak are reciprocal to peace and harmony.
