KARACHI: City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has finalized plan for the disposal of sacrificial animals’ offal at Eid-ul-Adha. The CDGK would hire more than 3,500 vehicles for lifting the offals on Eid-ul-Adha while the towns would also make separate arrangements at union council level. This was decided Wednesday in a joint meeting of Nazims, Town Municipal Officers and City District Government Karachi’s (CDGK) officers at Civic Center on Tuesday. District Coordination Officer Karachi Muhammad Javed Hanif Khan, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Managing Director Qutbuddin Sheikh, Executive District Officer (EDO) Finance, EDO Works and Services, EDO Municipal Services and EDO Health also attended.
The meeting also decided that the officers concerned and CDGK personnel, town municipal administrations and KWSB would remain on their duty during all three days of the Eid. The CDGK would establish a centralized office at the Civic Center with 80 vehicles stationed alongwith 200 workers. CDGK’s vehicles and city warden’s mobiles would patrol on 29 main corridors of the city to take instant action on any complaint.
Kamal said that the UCs need hiring of the vehicles and have to arrange for the fuel but freezing of funds now has created problems, thus preventing them to function as per the aspirations of the citizens. The UCs role in this regard stands pivotal but they could not play active role due to freezing of funds. Henceforth, the UCs’ funds should be restored immediately.
Kamal regretted as he said that it was inappropriate for the government to freeze the union council’s (UC) funds on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha because it might affect UCs’ performances in timely lifting of millions of offal of sacrificial animals. The funds of UCs should therefore be restored immediately.
Kamal said that the burial of the offals under scientific method had ensured cleanliness and good sanitation condition during Eid-ul-Adha but also saved the airplanes from possible dangers due to flying birds, adding that the offals would not be dumped at the landfill sites while the city wardens would be deputed for monitoring.
Kamal stressed TMAs and departments concerned should compare previous performance so as to repeat the same with true devotion and dedication because any negligence would tarnish the image.
The DCO Karachi would remain in close coordination with CDGK’s departments concerned regarding arrangements on Eid-ul-Adha.
Landhi Town Arrangements: Meanwhile, the TMAs in city have also chalked out their plans regarding collection and disposal of the offals.
In this regard, Landhi TMA has announced for stern action against those who would discard the offal at public places and inside lanes.
Member National Assembly Syed Asif Hasnain has in this regard convened a meeting to finalize arrangements.
Hasnain urged the UC nazims that they should identify areas that need immediate sanitation and fumigation so that the people of the area should be protected from any possible anomaly.
Hasnain also directed the UC nazims to ensure prompt lifting of the offals from streets and public venues while they should remain in contact with the complaint cell so that any untoward situation could be removed immediately.Hasnain also directed the officers concerned to ensure immediate fumigation and insecticide spray on sites wherefrom the offals were lifted.
