DHA Women College held seminar in memory to Galileo Galilei

KARACHI: DHA College for Women Phase-VIII under the aegis of Pulse Science Society organized a seminar in memory of pioneer of astronomy and modern Physics Galileo Galilei under the declaration of the UNESCO for year 2009 as “The year of Astronomy” held at college’s auditorium on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion Brig (R) Iftikhar appreciated students’ interest in the research work of the great astronomer while he stressed with reference to the Holy Quran for spirit of inquiry, observation and thinking, which according to him constitutes basics of modern scientific research.
The seminar had attracted various presentations with one quite interesting ‘Life of Galileo Galilei’ that depicted different aspects of life of the astronomer and his achievements.
College’s biology, chemistry and computer departments had offered presentations on ‘Contribution of Galileo in the Field of Botany’ and ‘Hepatitis’ on ‘Chemistry of the Sun’ and ‘Galileo’s Contribution in Chemistry’ and on ‘Emerging New Technologies’ respectively.
Geography, mathematics and physics departments delivered their presentations on ‘Galileo European Satellite Navigation System’ ‘Galileo’s contribution in Mathematics’ and ‘Works of Galileo’ respectively.Jinnah University Registrar Dr Aqula Islam, Asian Physics Education Network Member Prof. Aziz Fatima Hasnain, and Member Center of Physics Education Prof. Mrs. Asim Ali were present.
